In a city of firsts, Dr. Hartman started using Far Infrared Red Light Therapy in the early 2000’s from learning about it in one of her courses. Since she has invested in a few red-light devices through the years, in 2015, Dr. Hartman added Far infrared red light massage therapy, and now offers Far Infrared Sauna System with Chromotherapy. She has continued to invest in this area due to her therapy clients benefiting greatly from it.
Overview of both Far Infrared/ Red Light Therapy:
What is Far Infrared/ Red Light Therapy, or Photobiomodulation? It is an FDA approved treatment originally discovered by NASA and FDA registered Medical Device Class II. It involves having low-power red light wavelengths emitted directly through the skin and is absorbed causing a positive effect on a cellular energy, nervous system and metabolic processes. It is a medical laser treatment and has recently been FDA -cleared for conditions like chronic joint pain associated with arthritis. Using specific wavelengths of light, we can stimulate the bottom layer of the skin’s dermis to boost the production of collagen and heal tissue.
Far Infrared/ Red Light Therapy is most commonly known in wellness for it’s anti-aging properties. Red Light causes the body to produce its own collagen at the dermal level reconstructing the skin and renewing it back to its younger state all on its own. It rehydrates the cell reducing inflammation naturally and improving healing time. It is like the fountain of youth is beaming down on you.
How does red light therapy work?
Red Light activated ATP stimulates white blood cells that work to repair damaged tissues, and increases collagen production that builds elasticity in the skin and can aid in wound healing. ATP also activates endorphins that provide soothing relief from chronic and acute pain.
Red Light has become the ‘Magic Pill’ for many who have experienced first-hand the benefits of infrared and it continues to grow as more and more people discover these incredible benefits.
Benefits of Red Light Therapy:
What are the side effects of Far Infrared/Red Light Therapy? Are rare, and well-tolerated by most, but a handful have had burning, swelling, dizziness, or nausea depending on how toxic and hydrated they are before a session. The burning is similar to a “sun tanning bed,” and resolves on it own within a few days. For those with sensitive skin start with shorter times.
Contraindications for Red Light Therapy Beds: (Dr. Hartman knows of these beds but did not purchase a “therapy bed” which looks similar to a tanning bed.
